GRACE & TRUTH BROADCAST |
1. AGREE ON EARTH There are two ways we can agree on earth: a. Agree with God with another person or group of people (Corporately): Jesus said, "…if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them." (Matthew 18:19-20) There is a corporate and relational dynamic in regards to prayer that clearly is a powerful theme in the Bible (Joel 1:14, James 5:16). b. Agree with God alone (Individually): Jesus says in Matthew 6:6, "But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly." Regarding agreeing with His will, He says in verse 10, "Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." 2. WITH SINCERITY James 5:16 says, "…The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." Righteousness is a gift of God (Romans 3:21-24, 5:17). For it to be effective in our lives, we have to submit to it and let it change us into the image of God (2 Corinthians 3:18). Practically, that means we no longer resist the ways, works, and words of God. We let Him teach us (Ephesians 4:21) and give us His thoughts, desires, and leadings. And we follow Him. We forsake our own way, and submit to His. If He says it's wrong, it's wrong. If He says it is right, it is right. THIS IS NOT A DRAG! It doesn't mean He takes our personalities away, or makes us become like robots. He delights in us and loves our personalities, with all their distinctions and individualities. Submitting to Him doesn't mean we become perfect over night, but that we have a genuine "yes" in our spirits to Him, that says, "Lord, I know I am weak, but You are strong, and I know you are able to help me and mold me fully into Your image. I am willing to stay in the fire, that I may come out as pure gold before You!" However, if He is speaking about something in our lives that opposes Him and we continue to resist His promptings to turn to Him; He says we will pray, but He will not listen (Amos 5). But even then, He will not give up on us! If at some point (and sometimes it takes a lot of pressure and pain, which God desires to keep us from), we listen to His voice, and turn to Him, He will hear and answer us. Consider the verse in 2 Chronicles 7:14 , "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." We also need to consider the serious and very real consequences of resisting the call of this verse. 3. THROUGH FAITH Mark 11:22-24 says, "Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them." Faith is more than a feeling; it is a gift from God. The disciples of Jesus asked Him to increase their faith. I see faith as the ability to believe that God can do it. Grace to believe. Mark 10:27 says, "…with God all things are possible." 4. IN JESUS' NAME Jesus said to His disciples in John 14:13, "And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it." If we pray in Jesus' name with sincerity, we know that we can access the throne of grace boldly, because our sins are washed away through faith in Him who loved us and gave Himself for us. He took the wrath of God against our sin for us, so that through believing in Him, we should be saved from the judgment that will come upon the world because of sin. Through faith in Him, we can approach our Father in heaven, knowing that our sins have been forgiven on account of His name. Hebrews 4:14-16 says, "Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need." 5. ACCORDING TO GOD'S WILL As we pray in Jesus' name, according to God's will, we know He hears us. The apostle John said in 1 John 5:14-15, "Now this is the confidence we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him." How do we know if we are praying according to God's will? We have to ask, "Does it line up with God's Word (the Bible)?" If it does, we are praying His will. If it opposes the Bible, it is not God's will. Some basic things we know are God's will: * Salvation (1 Timothy 2:4, John. 3:16-17, Acts 2:1-41, Matthew. 28:18-20, Mark. 16:15-18) "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." (2 Peter 3:9) * Healing (James 5:16, Matthew 15:30-31, Luke 4:18-19, Matthew 4:23-24, Matthew 11:5-6) "And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them all." (Matthew. 12:15) Remember that "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever" (Hebrews 13:8)! If He exhibited the desire of God for healing when He was on earth, and we know that God never changes, we can confidently believe that it is His desire to heal today (Ezekiel 47:1-12) * Deliverance (Acts 10:38, Luke 4:18-19, Psalm 31:2, Galatians 1:3-5, Psalm 39:8, Psalm 91, 2 Timothy 4:18) "He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins." (Colossians 1:13-14) * Provision (Malachi 3:8-12, Matthew 6:33, Luke 6:38, Proverbs 11:25) "Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness, while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God." (2 Corinthians 9:10-11) * Restoration (Luke. 15:1-7 (The Lost Sheep), Luke 15:8-10 (The Lost Coin), Luke 15:11-31 (The Prodigal Son), The Book of Hosea, Luke 22:31-34, 54-60; John 21:1-8, 15-19 (Peter) "Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." (Galatians 6:1-2) * Justice for the oppressed (James 5:1-6, Psalm 140:12, Psalm 149:5-9, Isaiah 1:11-20) "Is this not the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, and not hide yourself from your own flesh? Then your light shall break forth like the morning, your healing shall spring forth speedily, and your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; you shall cry, and He will say, 'Here I am.'"(Isaiah 58:6-9) * The peace of Jerusalem/Salvation of Israel (Isaiah 62, Ezekiel 36, Romans 9-11) "I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the LORD, do not keep silent, and give Him no rest till He establishes and till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth." (Isaiah 62:6) "Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved." (Romans 10:1) * Key Apostolic Prayers (predominantly church-focused) (John. 17, Ephesians 1:17-19, Ephesians 3:16-19, Colossians 1:9-11, Phillipians1:9-11, Romans 15:5-6, 13, 1 Corinthians 1:5-8, 1 Thessalonians 3:10-13, 2 Thessalonians 11:11-12) "And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God." (Philippians 1:9-11) * The Second Coming of Jesus (Matthew 6:10, Revelation 22:17, 20) "And the Spirit and the bride say, 'Come!' And let him who hears say, 'Come!'…" (Revelation 22:17) Please send us your request in the space provided below… Thank-you! PRAYER REQUESTS |
"Pray without ceasing!" 1 Thessalonians 5:17 |
Last updated: 03 December, 2009 - website by ERS Media |
We here at Grace and Truth would love to partner with you in prayer for whatever needs you may have. Please take some time to read through these verses/notes on prayer, and then type your prayer needs in the box below. God bless you! May He have His way in your heart and life, as well as those you love and care for! His will is perfect and good, and He has your best in His heart! The best thing about prayer is that we get to commune with our Father God, who created us to have fellowship with Him and with each other (1 John 1:3). It was in His original design. A few prayer pointers: If you are serious about receiving something from God, whether it be spiritual breakthrough, physical healing, the salvation of a family member or friend, restoration of a broken relationship, healing for a broken heart , vision, focus, direction, financial breakthrough, or whatever else, there are some helpful biblical principles that can help provide direction as we prepare our hearts to seek God. I have them listed as: 1. Agree on earth, 2. with sincerity, 3. through faith, 4. in Jesus' name, and 5. according to God's will. Then, we can have faith that we can "Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock, and it will be opened to you" (Matthew 7:7). |
